Landlord Tenant Practice in D.C. 5-Part Training
Please join the D.C. Bar Pro Bono Center for our five-part course on Landlord Tenant Practice in the District of Columbia. This is a great opportunity for both new and experienced volunteer attorneys interested in landlord tenant practice. The Pro Bono Center is pleased to offer this training at no cost and it is appropriate for attorneys, attorney/paralegal teams, and law students during clinical work. Please note that the training has a pro bono commitment following the training. Please see the training requirement for more information.
Training: Landlord Tenant Practice in the District of Columbia: 5 Part Course
Location: Zoom
Date: Thursdays, May 6, 2021 to June 3, 2021
Time: Starts at 12:00 p.m. ET. End time varies depending on part.
Shockingly, more than 90% of the tenant defendants in D.C.’s Landlord Tenant Court routinely appear in court without counsel. Evictions lead to homelessness. With such high stakes, legal representation in landlord/tenant matters can make a huge difference in the lives of individuals and families.
These training sessions are designed to equip attorneys who have had little or no experience in landlord/tenant matters to competently and comfortably handle these matters for pro bono clients. The training will focus primarily on proceedings in the District of Columbia involving indigent or low-income families. Each session will discuss COVID-19 related updates in the law or procedures.
The Landlord/Tenant training will cover:
• Overview of Landlord/Tenant Court
• Overview of Substantive Landlord and Tenant Law
• Complaints, Pleadings and Pre-trial Procedures
• Eviction Procedures
• Public and Subsidized Housing Issues
• Rent Control
Dates and times for the courses:
