Trauma-Informed Approach for Client Narratives
Please join the D.C. Bar Pro Bono Center for the final event in our four-part Asylum and Immigration Training Series. This series is sponsored by Capital Area Immigrants’ Rights (CAIR) Coalition, Catholic Charities DC - Immigration Legal Services, Human Rights First, and Whitman-Walker Health.
Training: Asylum and Immigration Training Series: Trauma-Informed Approach to Developing Effective Client Narratives

Location: Zoom
Date: Wednesday, June 2, 2021
Time: 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. ET
Developing a clear client narrative is a necessary and emotional part of the asylum application process, where credibility can make or break an asylum case. This skills-based webinar will explore techniques for working with asylum-seekers to craft effective written personal statements and preparing clients for testimony with an adjudicator. Topics will include preparing for client declaration meetings, trauma-informed interviewing techniques, structure and formatting tips, building credibility, and preparing clients to testify at the Asylum Office and Immigration Court.
This training is appropriate for pro bono attorneys and attorney/staff teams with a basic understanding of asylum law. Taking the Asylum and Immigration Training Series: Basics of Asylum Law and Procedure is recommended. Attendees do not need to be licensed in D.C. to take an asylum case, but must have an active license to practice in some U.S. jurisdiction. Due to potential conflicts preventing pro bono case placement, this training is not open to government employees.
